In March 2019, the first DAAD-funded preparatory trip to Ethiopia took place.

Project Idea

The project idea was outlined as follows:
"The intention is a teaching cooperation of different disciplines in the field of monument preservation and historical building research, which should enable the students to explore architectural monuments not only in their physical present and historical development with the means of building research and to preserve and reactivate them on this basis with appropriate measures, but also to understand the use and change as part of the structure and to document them as socio-cultural peculiarity".

Next Steps

The discussions and the exchange on site have been so successful and promising that a joint project cooperation with the University of Addis Ababa is planned. Therefore, a design project in the historical centre of Addis Ababa is planned as part of the curricular two-semester master project M2 at the Faculty of Architecture.
The transfer of culture and knowledge, especially in the context of the young master's programme Cultural Heritage at EiABC, is explicitly desired and there are also many expressions of interest from German and Ethiopian students.
