The forgotten castles in Lower Silesia

The last castle in Ober Stradam was built in 1866 by Otto von Reinersdorf-Paczensky and Tenczin and extended in 1880. The castle has been in ruinous condition since a fire disaster in the early 2000s and is falling into disrepair. It once formed the core of the village and was also used as a village community center for a long time after 1945, until it was sold into private ownership.

In the design project we deal exemplarily with the conversion and reconstruction of the castle in Ober Stradam and want to show possibilities of reactivation and potentials in dealing with the forgotten castles in Silesia besides the usual reconstruction.

During an excursion on site we will look at some examples of already reactivated castles, in the village of Stradomia Wierzchnia we will talk to the local people and together we will work out possible scenarios of reuse, as well as visit the rich heritage of the 20's architecture in Wroclaw.

Places will be allocated through the central faculty registration procedure in RWTH online. Place acceptance of the allocated places until 10.10.2022 via email to kerner@denkmal.arch.rwth-aachen.de.
